SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Damion Laurelez admits to speeding through a central Sioux Falls neighborhood, crashing into a house and killing two of his teenage passengers. Tests showed he had alcohol and drugs in his system.
But Laurelez says he doesnot deserve the sentence that a judge handed down. Despite a plea deal recommending no more than 30 years, Judge Douglas Barnett sentenced him to 40 years. Tomorrow, Laurelez will return to court in hopes of getting that sentence reduced.
Laurelez wrote in a handwritten letter to the judge that he understands that he received a longer sentence because of “what you were told was said on my phone calls.”…
