Firefighters knocked down a blaze Thursday night in Wyandotte County

A tractor trailer hauling about 15,000 pounds of furniture and other materials caught fire Thursday evening, sending dozens of firefighters to Interstate 435 and Woodend Road to put out the fire.

Fire crews arrived about 5:30 p.m. and found flames had extended into the trailer, according to an Edwardsville Fire Department Facebook post. The driver got out safely, but later suffered a non life-threatening medical emergency and was taken to a hospital.

Additional firefighters from the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department, Leavenworth County Fire District No. 2, and Fairmount Township Fire Department sent crews to help put out the fire…
