WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Eastbrook Homes is looking to build 114 units, a combination of townhomes and standalone condos, on a 29-acre lot in Walker. The project was spurred by a local church, which had vacant land and was looking to make a difference in the community.
The planning commission last week recommended approval of a rezoning request and preliminary area site plan for the project known as “Eden Field” at 2950 Bristol Ave. NW and 1465 3 Mile Road NW, though it added a few conditions. Next, the request will go to the city commission.

The project “started probably two and a half years ago when members of the Orchard Hill Church were in the process of looking at how they might better serve their Walker community,” Eastbrook Homes CEO Mick McGraw told the planning commission at its Aug. 5 meeting.
“That land that we’re talking about here has been vacant for 30-plus years,” Dan DeWaal, a member of Orchard Hill Church, explained during public comment. “As a church, we’ve looked at it and said we can’t continue to have it just sit there not being used, not being a good steward of what we’ve been given.”…
