Abington Township’s Manor Woods Improvement Project is expected to begin on or around Saturday, August 15.
The 5.2-acre property is located on Forrest Avenue across from Alverthorpe Park. According to the township’s website, plans include the construction of a woodland walking trail, a parking lot, a sidewalk along Forrest Avenue, a crosswalk to Alverthorpe Park, and stormwater management facilities.
The first phase of work will include:
- Targeted tree removals to prepare for the future trail and parking lot
- Sidewalk connection to Douglass Avenue
- Replacement of fencing along Douglass Avenue and Forrest Avenue
Phase 2 is expected to begin in the spring of 2027 and includes the following:
- Trail paving
- Construction of the parking lot
- Stormwater management
- Crosswalk
In 2023, the township’s board of commissioners approved the use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to be spent on the design, engineering and construction of the “Nature Trail Option” in the 2012 Manor Woods Park Master Plan.
