Iconic Utah seafood restaurant closes downtown location after nearly 50 years

Another longtime restaurant has served its final meal, marking the end of an era for one of downtown Salt Lake City’s best-known dining destinations.

A beloved seafood restaurant that welcomed generations of diners for more than four decades has permanently closed its flagship location, becoming the latest casualty in a year that has seen numerous restaurant closures across the country.

Downtown chapter comes to an end

Market Street Grill permanently closed its downtown Salt Lake City restaurant and adjoining Oyster Bar on June 30, 2026, ending more than 40 years of service at the location. The restaurant first opened in 1980 and became known for its fresh seafood, oysters, clam chowder, and classic American fare, earning a loyal following among both locals and visitors.

The closure affects only the downtown restaurant. Market Street Grill continues to operate its Cottonwood Heights and South Jordan locations, which remain open to customers…
