- Caitlin Clark overcomes injury scare, drops 29 points on Dallas Wings as Fever take top spot in East (foxnews.com)
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever returned to their home court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to face off against one of the WNBA’s rising stars, Paige Bueckers, and the Dallas Wings. The matchup brought plenty of excitement, though the drama was of a different kind than the recent off-court controversies making headlines in the league.
Despite the Wings missing key player Azzi Fudd, they kept the game competitive. The first quarter was a low-scoring affair, with neither team breaking 20 points. By halftime, Dallas held a narrow 37-35 lead.
A tense moment unfolded just before the break when Clark rolled her ankle on defense and hobbled off the court toward the locker room. With the Fever aiming to claim the top spot in the Eastern Conference, losing their star player could have been a significant setback.
Fortunately for Indiana, Clark returned to the court in the second half and sparked a surge. She finished with an impressive 29 points and 10 assists, matching Bueckers’ own 29-point performance, which included six assists and six rebounds.
Indiana also received a crucial boost from Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 23 points and extended her franchise record with an 18th consecutive 20-point game. Tyasha Harris contributed as well, hitting all four of her three-point attempts.
The Fever pulled away in the second half to secure a 98-87 victory. This win places Indiana atop the Eastern Conference standings ahead of the Atlanta Dream, setting the stage for a pivotal showdown between the two teams this Sunday.
