Huntsville 50501 is joining Deflock’s National Week of Action Against ALPRs. They are hosting several events the week of Aug. 16.
ALPR, or Automatic License Plate Recognition, cameras are high-speed, computer-controlled camera systems typically mounted on street poles that automatically log license plate numbers of the cars captured in the footage. They include the photograph, location, date and time the car passed the camera. Sometimes there is footage of passengers.
Municipal entities and businesses have installed the cameras across the United States, citing a need to assist law enforcement agencies with crime investigations. The cameras can determine if a certain car is near the scene of a crime and identify travel patterns, advocates said…
