SEATTLE – The Seattle Seahawks and cornerback Devon Witherspoon have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension worth $132 million, including $101 million guaranteed, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who spoke to The Associated Press on Saturday.
The source, who requested anonymity because the deal has not yet been officially finalized, confirmed that this contract would position Witherspoon as the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
Earlier this year, on March 26, the Seahawks exercised their fifth-year option on Witherspoon’s rookie contract. However, the team opted to secure his future with a long-term extension on the same day they began their preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
Witherspoon, 25, was the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. That same draft saw the Seahawks select wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round; Smith-Njigba recently signed a four-year, $168.8 million extension with $120 million guaranteed.
In his three seasons with Seattle, Witherspoon has earned Pro Bowl honors each year and was named to the second-team All-Pro. He played a key role in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory last season, participating in all three playoff games and contributing 17 tackles and four passes defended.
To date, Witherspoon’s regular-season stats include 249 tackles, 32 passes defended, 16 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions across 43 games.
This contract extension underscores Seattle’s commitment to maintaining a strong defensive core as they look ahead to future seasons.
