ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local group hosted Rochester’s first “Literacy Parade” for educators, families, students, and other organizations to celebrate the power of reading on Saturday.
The parade started at 11 a.m. at the Frederick Douglass Library on South Avenue. The parade marched through downtown with groups celebrating their favorite books through costumes, displays, and literacy-themed activities.
“We all know that literacy reading is the foundation of success. Without reading and literacy, we will not be here, we will not achieve anything,” said Jacqueline D. Griffin, school commissioner for the Rochester City School District.
