Which Massachusetts beaches are closed Sunday, Aug. 16?

Dozens of beach closures were in effect on Sunday across Massachusetts, with elevated bacteria and harmful cyanobacteria blooms responsible for most of the advisories.

State data listed 35 beach closure locations across 23 communities. Twenty-four were posted because of bacterial exceedances, while seven were attributed to harmful cyanobacteria blooms. Four others were listed as closed for other reasons.

The closures stretch from the Berkshires to Central Massachusetts to Greater Boston, the South Coast, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. Worcester had four listings, including three beaches affected by cyanobacteria blooms, while Lynn had four listings tied to elevated bacteria…
