Selena Gomez is strongly denying allegations of fraud related to her mental health startup, Wondermind Global.
Mathew S. Rosengart, Gomez’s attorney, issued a statement on August 16 condemning the fraud and breach of contract lawsuit recently filed against the singer and her former business partners.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” Rosengart said. He added that they plan to file a motion to dismiss the claims and will vigorously defend Gomez against the accusations.
The lawsuit was filed on August 13 in Delaware federal court by Wondermind SRS 44 and Bespoke Wondermind SPV. The plaintiffs claim they invested nearly $1.2 million in Wondermind Global in 2022 based on false representations made by Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former partner Daniella Pierson. According to the complaint, the defendants allegedly misrepresented the company’s infrastructure, leadership, and readiness to launch a profitable mental health and wellness platform.
Specifically, the suit claims Gomez promised to take an active role as head of marketing, Pierson was presented as a seasoned executive who had secured partnerships, and a range of revenue-generating initiatives were purportedly underway. However, the plaintiffs contend these claims were false, stating the app was never developed, partnerships never materialized, and the company quietly failed over three years without investors being informed.
The plaintiffs are pursuing a jury trial and seek reimbursement of their investments, damages, legal fees, and other appropriate relief.
Daniella Pierson has also denied the allegations, with her representative stating she never misused investor funds and even invested her own money into the business without taking a salary.
As the case unfolds, Gomez and her legal team maintain that the claims against her lack any factual or legal basis and are prepared to fight the lawsuit in court.
