NWS Memphis warns heat index will top 110 degrees, urges precautions

The Memphis office of the National Weather Service warned that the region has reached the peak of a brutal heat wave and that widespread heat index values will exceed 110 degrees this afternoon, the agency said in a social media post.

The post said the heat comes after six days of oppressive heat and thick humidity, and that the cumulative effect has left bodies worn down and the risk of heat illness at its highest point.

The agency urged people to delay yard work and outdoor projects, drink water throughout the day, stay in air conditioning when possible and bring pets indoors…
