WORDSTOCK returns August 22 with free books, expanded Antelope Park festival

Linked2Literacy is collecting books across Lincoln ahead of the fourth annual WORDSTOCK community book festival, set for Saturday, August 22, at Antelope Park. The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Auld Pavilion and surrounding bandshell area. Visitors will be able to browse thousands of donated books and take home as many as they would like.

Jo Sheets of Linked2Literacy said the organization is asking residents to gather new or gently used books that may be sitting on nightstands or crowding bookshelves and take them to one of the group’s collection sites around the city. Monetary donations are also accepted online to help cover festival costs.

“What you can do to help is to gather up all those gently used books,” Sheets said. “We also take new book donations as well, and drop them off at one of our convenient collection sites.”

The organization is accepting fiction, nonfiction, novels and other genres for readers of all ages. Sheets said books should be in good condition and not so dated that they would have limited appeal. Donations can serve children and families as well as teachers stocking classroom libraries, grandparents reading with children and adults looking for their next book…
