Chattanooga anglers say new TWRA black bass plan is a step in the right direction

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — As the bass fishing industry grows in our area, particularly Chickamauga and Nickajack lake, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is coming up with a long-term plan of how to make it better.

A stakeholder advisory group of Tennesseans from different parts of the industry helped TWRA with the drafted plan. Caleb Bell, a guide at BassQuest Fishing in Chattanooga, was part of that stakeholder group.

We have fishing podcasters, guides, college fishing coaches, tournament directors, pro anglers, radio hosts related to fishing, like boat dealership owners, marina owners,” Bell said. “We’ve got men and women in there, we’ve got people from tourism boards.

TWRA says the plan’s draft establishes management goals, objectives and strategies for producing quality bass fishing across the state. The agency notes it is intended to guide future management decisions but does not replace the existing process for setting fishing regulations…
