More than 50 reports linked to law enforcement impersonation scam in St. Lucie County

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is sounding the alarm after receiving more than 50 reports from people targeted by a scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officers.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, scammers have been using the names of the Civil Judicial Services Bureau, Lt. Michael O’Brien and retired Sgt. Jeff Buchanan when making fraudulent calls.

Deputies said the scam follows a repeated pattern. A caller claims the victim missed court or jury duty and that there is a warrant for their arrest. SLCSO warned that scammers may use official-sounding language and personal information to make the call appear legitimate…
