Woman returns to thank the Aurora hospital team that saved her life 10 years ago

AURORA, Colo. — Nearly 10 years after a catastrophic motorcycle crash left her fighting for her life, Whitney Bennefield returned to the intensive care unit at HCA HealthONE Aurora to thank the team that saved her.

Bennefield was given little chance of survival after the 2016 crash. She spent three weeks in the ICU with life-threatening injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.

“When it first happened, we didn’t know what her life would be,” her mother Julie Bennefield said. “We were told maybe she’ll go to a nursing home, and that was really hard as a parent to hear those words.”

Today, Whitney Bennefield lives independently, holds a job, and trains for running and cycling events…
