Chattanooga city council boosts committee role, sets 10-day deadline for ordinance action

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga city council is changing the rules that govern how it operates, giving its six committees a larger role in reviewing ordinances before they move through the full council process.

Under the new rules, committees will cover areas including the budget, zoning and housing, public safety and public works.

When the council chair sends an ordinance to a committee, that committee will have 10 business days to take action…
