Food insecurity jumps 75% in New Jersey as more families seek help

Food insecurity in New Jersey has jumped 75% in four years, with families that include people working full-time among those increasingly turning to food pantries and community kitchens for help.

One in eight New Jersey residents experienced food insecurity in 2024, according to Feeding America’s latest study. That’s about 13% of the state’s population and a 75% increase since 2020.
