SALEM, Va. — The host Salem RidgeYaks absolutely throttled Wilson pitching — at least the first three hurlers for the Warbirds — in a 21-4 romp Tuesday night, Aug. 18, in the Single-A Carolina League series opener at Carilion Clinic Field.
The RidgeYaks banged out 23 hits to obliterate that team record as well as runs allowed by Warbirds pitchers — all 21 were earned — while the 17-run margin of defeat set another mark of ignominy for Wilson.
The one-sided loss marred the Single-A debut of shortstop Trey Ebel, the first-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers and younger brother of Brady Ebel, the Warbirds former shortstop who was promoted to High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday.
