Three coastal Novant Health hospitals win national heart, stroke care awards

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Three coastal North Carolina hospitals have received national recognition from the American Heart Association for their stroke and heart failure care.

The annual Get With the Guidelines awards honor facilities that meet clinical standards for patient outcomes, complication rates, and treatment times.

The recognized regional facilities include:

  • Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center (Wilmington, N.C.) — Earned Gold and Gold Plus honors for heart failure and stroke care, as well as recognition for meeting Type 2 diabetes quality standards.
  • Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center (Bolivia, N.C.) — Earned Gold, Rural Gold, and Gold Plus honors for heart failure and stroke care, along with Type 2 diabetes quality standards.
  • Novant Health Pender Medical Center (Burgaw, N.C.) — Received a Rural Silver designation for stroke care.

The healthcare system also recently expanded regional cardiovascular services, including left ventricular assist device surgeries at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and New Hanover Regional, as well as robotic mitral valve repairs…
