WAXAHACHIE, TX — A Lewisville mother is urging parents to take e-scooter safety seriously after her 12-year-old son was badly hurt in a crash in Waxahachie. Creed Clark suffered a fractured skull and nose, a brain bleed and other serious injuries when he fell from an electric scooter while visiting his father. He is now out of the hospital after weeks of treatment. His family says the crash is a warning about how quickly a routine ride can turn dangerous.

The injury came as scooter-related emergency room visits among children have risen sharply over three years. Creed said he was riding with friends when the crash happened. He recalled that he had been wearing a helmet at first, but later took it off because he thought it looked awkward. His mother, Brittany Rowe, said a small pothole helped trigger the fall that changed their lives.

How The Crash Happened

Creed said he was playing with friends when he crashed. He said the helmet had been given to him by a friend’s mother, and he wore it only for a while before removing it. He said the blue helmet made him feel like he looked “goofy,” which led him to take it off. Rowe said the scooter hit a small pothole, and the fall followed immediately after.

What happened next was severe enough to leave the child with injuries that alarmed his family and required a flight to Dallas for treatment. He told his mother that something “cracked” when he fell, and later identified that as his skull.
