SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Police Department is facing an officer shortage and is rolling out financial incentives aimed at recruiting new officers.
Public Information Officer Chris Bordelon said the department’s police academy numbers show the extent of the shortage.
“We typically, you know, in years past would have 20 to 25 officers in a police academy, and after about 2022, that has changed,” Bordelon said. “Now we are having a harder time getting those numbers in the police academy. We tend to average now about anywhere between eight and 15 officers for a police academy.”
