Greenville resident displaced after ceiling collapses at apartment

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – An Upstate woman shared that she has not been able to stay in her apartment after the ceiling collapsed on Monday.

Jasmine Merrill told FOX Carolina that she arrived at her unit at Eagle Trace Apartments on Lakeside Road after work to find that the ceiling had collapsed.

Merrill said that apartment management will likely move her to another unit after finishing cleanup work Wednesday, but that she has not been offered any compensation or refund on rent in the meantime.

In 2023, a father and his 10-year-old daughter were in a similar situation when the ceiling of their unit at the apartment complex collapsed. In that case, the father said that the apartment complex did not offer for his family to stay in an apartment that was not damaged, and that a few days later, he received a letter from management that told him he needed to move out only a few days later…
