Affidavit details how man escaped Austin Police custody through ceiling

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man in Austin Police custody escaped from St. David’s North Austin Medical Center on Monday by climbing through the ceiling, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by KXAN.

The affidavit said 43-year-old Henry Eduardo Rodriguez was detained on three drug charges but needed to be monitored by hospital staff for 12 hours due to drugs in his system.

Approximately seven hours into the monitoring, the affidavit said Rodriguez requested to use the bathroom, which the monitoring officer denied multiple times, saying he needed to wait until he was discharged.
