Fleet Farm gun sale records tied to St. Paul bar shooting released

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and the University of California, San Francisco’s Industry Documents Library released 694 internal documents from Fleet Farm showing the firearms retailer ignored clear warnings when selling guns to a straw buyer.

Wednesday’s documents reveal Fleet Farm later used its own sales to that straw buyer as an example in internal training materials. The training materials stated it is “pretty obvious what’s going on” when someone buys numerous, very similar handguns in a short window of time, calling it a red flag for straw purchasing.

These are the first firearms industry documents to be included in UCSF’s Industry Documents Library. The library currently houses millions of documents from tobacco, opioids and other public health litigation…
