RRPD report suggests Adrian Maestas’ killing was the result of juvenile gang shootout

RIO RANCHO — Records recently released to the Rio Rancho Observer suggest the Oct. 30, 2024, shooting of 15-year-old Adrian Maestas was the result of a juvenile gang rivalry and the juveniles involved left Maestas with a gunshot wound to the head. He died two days later.

What we know so far

Initial information provided about the incident on Oct. 30, 2024, stated a man was found in critical condition from a gunshot wound to the head. RRPD confirmed the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Maestas was identified as the victim on social media and later at a candlelight vigil in his honor.
