PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — After a law enforcement misconduct board ruled that a controversial police sergeant could get his job back earlier this month, the city has yet again appealed the decision to the R.I. Superior Court.
In April 2020, Sgt. Joseph Hanley was captured on both cell phone and police body-worn camera video hitting a suspect, Rishod Gore, who was in handcuffs at the time. In the video, Hanley was also seen kneeling on Gore’s neck area and standing on his calves.
Hanley was criminally charged with a misdemeanor assault and battery by his own police department less than a month after the incident was captured on camera. He was suspended without pay in late 2020…
