SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 47-year-old Lakeland man died late Thursday night after an SUV struck his motorized scooter at a highway intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 10:55 p.m. along southbound US-301 at the intersection of County Road 470 in Sumter County.
State troopers reported that the Lakeland man was stopped on his scooter in the southbound lane of US-301 at the intersection. At the same time, an 18-year-old Port Charlotte man driving a southbound Hyundai SUV approached the intersection, failed to stop, and collided with the back of the scooter…
