Attleboro police warn of crossing guard shortage

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Some crossing guard posts are going unfilled in Attleboro at the start of this school year, according to the city’s police department.

Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney revealed Thursday that there is an ongoing shortage of school crossing guards.

“Over the past several years, the police department has experienced increasing difficulty recruiting and retaining enough crossing guards to staff all designated locations,” Heagney explained. “Despite continued recruitment efforts, there are currently not enough crossing guards available to cover every post.”
