Another hot day is in store across Arkansas on Saturday, August 22. Central and southern Arkansas are under heat advisories. The wildfire risk remains high, too. But there’s also a chance for some strong to severe storms. As a result, the Arkansas Storm Team has declared Saturday, August 22, an Alert Day.
In Little Rock, as of 12 p.m. CDT at the official site at the airport, it has already reached 103 degrees. This is now the 11th consecutive 100-degree day in Little Rock, tying for the 2nd longest streak in Little Rock’s recorded history.
But Saturday afternoon through the overnight, scattered showers and storms are possible across the state. Some storms may be strong to severe. Damaging wind gusts are the main hazard, as well as lightning and hail.
Storms will generally move from the northwest to the southeast across the state. Some may experience storms during the overnight hours, so it’s recommended to have ways to receive weather alerts set up before heading to bed.
Overnight, temperatures drop into the upper 60s and 70s.
