BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Wildfires continued to burn across the country as firefighters worked to get a handle on dozens of large blazes.
National Fire News for Aug. 23, 2026, reported that 200 new fires were reported nationwide yesterday, including five new large fires. Firefighters were working to contain 79 large fires, with 22,122 firefighters and support personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
