HONOLULU (Island News) – To assist children and families in Kaʻū communities throughout ongoing Hurricane Lala recovery efforts, the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) will start distributing free, shelf-stable meal boxes each week.
HIDOE will provide approximately 4,500 meals each week through three distribution sites located in Pahala, Na’alehu, and Ocean View. Each meal box will contain five breakfasts and five lunches that meet school meal nutrition requirements.
Meals will be available at no cost for keiki ages 18 and younger. Keiki must be present at the time of the pickup. Distribution will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following locations and days:
- Wednesdays beginning Aug. 26
- Ka’u High & Pahala Elementary School, old school gym
- 96-3150 Pikake St., Pahala
- Na’alehu Hongwanji Mission
- 95-5695 Hawaii Belt Road, Na’alehu
- Thursdays beginning Aug. 27
- St. Jude’s Episcopal Church
- 92-8606 Paradise Mauka Circle, Ocean View
