Parts of Chautauqua County Hit Hard by Heavy Rain

Portions of Chautauqua County got inundated Sunday as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms brought heavy rain to the area. The initial round early Sunday morning triggered a flash flood warning for portions of the county. The Dunkirk-Fredonia area appeared to get hit hardest, according to meteorologist David Thomas with the National Weather Service in Buffalo. The heavy rain caused water levels to rise on Canadaway Creek and led to flooding in some areas. Among them were a portion of Route 60 between Fredonia and Cassadaga, plus Willow Road underneath the CSX railroad overpass in the Town of Dunkirk.
