LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Online bidding for a massive piece of Lansing history will begin Monday morning. The historic John Bean building off South Cedar St. will be auctioned, with bidding starting at $100,000.
The building was originally built for the REO Motor Car Company, but during World War Two, it transitioned into manufacturing aircraft propellers before spending decades turning out iconic John Bean fire trucks. After recently housing a cannabis business which closed after legal battles, its next chapter will go to the highest bidder.
Lansing was once an industrial powerhouse, a history that largely remains forgotten today. But this landmark serves as a massive reminder of that powerhouse past. 6 News spoke to the President of LastBidRealEstate, Jordan Miedema, who is facilitating the online auction that begins today.
“It is 464,000ft². It’s on 12 acres, and there’re three different floors that make up the property,” says Miedema. “The property was used for manufacturing, and there’s a lot of history behind it, but now – It’s vacant.”…
