A man armed with a knife was shot by a Sayreville police officer after authorities said he menaced people in a neighborhood and advanced toward the officer Saturday, Aug. 22, authorities said.
Sayreville police responded to the area of Kendall Drive in Parlin around 6:15 p.m., on reports of a disorderly man armed with a knife who was menacing people and a vehicle, Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Sayreville Police Chief Daniel Plumacker said.
An officer encountered the man, who was not identified, holding a knife when police arrived, authorities said. The man ignored commands to drop the knife and advanced toward the officer, who fired his weapon and struck him, authorities said said.
