SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! Another round of showers and thunderstorms will be possible to start the week with temperatures remaining slightly above average.
Today’s weather: Lingering monsoonal moisture
Lingering monsoonal moisture, combined with an upper-level trough passing near Utah, will provide enough moisture to bring the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. There is a threat of severe thunderstorms today with the greatest chances of this for portions of northern Utah including the Salt Lake Valley, northern Wasatch Front, and Cache Valley. These areas are under a “Marginal” (level 1/5) threat for severe thunderstorms. Though the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has noted the possibility of a “Slight” (level 2/5) risk may be possible. The main threats with storms that do develop will be gusty winds in excess of 58mph with small hail.

For the rest of the state, a general thunderstorm risk is expected with the potential for flash flooding across eastern Utah where a 5% risk of excessive is highlighted. The highest chances of flash flooding will be for slot canyons, dry washes, and recent burn scars such as the Cottonwood, Widemouth 2, and Babylon.
Daytime highs will hover slightly above average with low to mid 90’s for northern Utah and upper 90’s to low 100’s for southern Utah.
Looking ahead: Drier conditions
Conditions will begin to dry out a bit more Tuesday with only slight chances for showers and thunderstorms across our higher elevations such as the Uintas and central mountains. Though rain chances cannot be ruled out for the valley locations Tuesday and Wednesday.
Temperatures will remain fairly steady through the middle of the week with highs trending a few degrees warmer by the middle of the week and Thursday with mid 90’s for northern Utah. A return of “hot” temperatures will be expected for southern Utah with highs warming into the mid 100’s and a forecasted high of 106° for St. George Wednesday and Thursday…
