Rabies case confirmed in Niagara Falls, involving bat

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A case of rabies involving a bat was confirmed in Niagara Falls, the Niagara County Department of Health said Monday.

Health officials said the case involved an encounter with a dead bat on Aug. 18 near Whirlpool State Park.

On Aug. 19, a sample was submitted to the State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center. Positive results were confirmed on Aug. 20. Two people were referred for post-exposure treatment…
