MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) — The Mount Pleasant Police Department said it uses Flock automated license plate reader cameras to support law enforcement in protecting lives and property.
The department said it is committed to the responsible use of the technology and has taken steps to ensure accountability and transparency. The public is encouraged to visit the MPPD Transparency Portal within the Flock website to learn more, according to the department.
Camera locations and coverage
The MPPD has 18 fixed Flock cameras at various locations across town. They are strategically placed along the approximately 550 miles of roadway within town boundaries. The department also has four flex cameras that can be moved to different locations for special events or investigations, according to officials.
What the cameras capture
Flock cameras capture vehicle information, including license plates, make, model, color and other distinguishing features such as stickers or markings. Officials said the cameras do not identify the person behind the wheel, provide a description of the driver, or collect any information about vehicle occupants.
