A suspected thief who allegedly stole soft drinks from a Circle K in The Villages ended up battling a deputy who tried to take her into custody.
Catherine Elaine Sackrider, 39, of Summerfield, was arrested Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Circle K at Mulberry Grove Plaza.
According to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the incident stems from an initial theft on Aug. 17. Video surveillance showed Sackrider filling two large Polar Pop cups—valued at $2.10—and hiding them in her purse. She was confronted by the store manager but walked out without paying. At the time, the manager simply wanted her trespassed from the property, but she had already left the area before law enforcement arrived.
