New private school opens in north Amarillo with focus on whole-child education

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A new private Christian school is opening its doors in north Amarillo, offering families another option for elementary education.

Golden Plains Community School is beginning its first school year serving students in pre-K through third grade. The school plans to add one grade level each year until it serves students through fifth grade.

Jessie McMeans, founder and executive director of Golden Plains Community School, said the idea for the school came from his experience working in education and learning about the community school model.
