No foul play suspected in death of El Paso jail inmate

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 39-year-old man who died while in custody at the El Paso County Detention Facility on Aug. 1 had been arrested the day before on a charge of aggravated robbery and had been experiencing medical problems, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a report filed with the state Attorney General’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the man as James Tavares, 39.

The cause of death is unknown and an autopsy is pending.

The incident was captured by the detention facility’s sixth-floor surveillance cameras, as well as the body-worn cameras of the supervisors who responded to the scene, the report said…
