A popular downtown nightlife hub continues to swirl in controversy. While battling lawsuits, a bankruptcy filing and claims of financial wrongdoing, Smoke BBQ + Skybar temporarily shut its doors over the weekend in the wake of a troubling health inspection. Smoke BBQ has been embroiled in controversy all year. First, a separate LLC at the back of their main establishment filed for bankruptcy, but soon after, a series of failed or stalled business endeavors and investor claims of fraud surfaced. The restaurant, located at 1100 E. Houston St., has been under scrutiny ever since.
In the latest development, the company closed unexpectedly over the weekend, citing a plumbing issue that required immediate repairs. An anonymous tip to MySA over the weekend said the closure was due to a health inspection – a claim San Antonio Metro Health later confirmed.
