Nixa, Mo., Police, schools use ‘Handle with care’ notices to support children after traumatic calls

NIXA, Mo. (KY3) – Nixa Police can send schools a ‘Handle With Care’ notice when a child is present during a traumatic event, giving staff limited context without revealing what happened.

The school does not receive a police report or details about the call. Staff receive the child’s name and the words “Handle With Care.”

How the notice works

Nixa police can submit a ‘Handle With Care’ notice when a child is present during an arrest, crash, fire, domestic assault, or another call an officer believes could be traumatic.
