Boise Centre suing ‘smart window’ maker, replacing large failed glass wall

A portion of the Grove Plaza in Boise is closed, as crews work to replace a series of large windows on the Boise Centre East convention center building.

Boise Centre East opened 11 years ago as part of the larger City Center Plaza project in Downtown Boise. The large-scale windows that adorn the convention center’s lobby have had visible damage for more than a year. The 45-foot-by-40-foot window was made by California company View Inc., using so-called smart technology that adjusted to the light to help control sunlight and heat.

View Inc. has been at the center of a number of legal cases over its smart windows, including a fraud charge by the Securities and Exchange Commission and class action lawsuits. The company settled the SEC case in 2023. View Inc. settled one of the class action suits last year…
