The scene at Mackay Stadium on Saturday was an ominous one as smoke from the Hawk Fire built up in the background.
North Valleys beat Lowry 13-7 in a tight battle, featuring the Panthers’ game-winning touchdown in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. Shortly after the game concluded, the PA announcer let everyone know that U.S. Route 395, the main freeway to get back to North Valleys, was closed due to the Hawk Fire.
“It was definitely an eventful Saturday,” Panthers’ football head coach Brad Rose told Nevada Sports Net via text. “Took us some time to get back up there. Once we got there, the power was out and the ‘ready to go’ evacuation order came in so trying to get everyone out while the traffic was pretty locked up was another challenge. But we all got out safely.”…
