In 2013, before he became a Massachusetts judge, William Sullivan defended 20-year-old Nathaniel Fujita, who was accused of killing his former high school girlfriend and dumping her body in a marsh.
During the trial, Sullivan did not deny that Fujita killed Lauren Astley in July 2011, about a month after they graduated from high school in Wayland, Mass., a Boston suburb.
