1836 — Creek removal party reaches Arkansas Post. On August 25, 1836, a party of about 2,500 Creek (Muscogee) people, being forcibly removed from Alabama to Indian Territory, disembarked from steamboats at Arkansas Post. They remained there for about two weeks while agents sought transportation for baggage and wagons for the sick and infirm. A National Park Service historic-resource study of Arkansas Post identifies the episode as one of the major Trail of Tears movements through Arkansas.
1837 — Native American removal party reaches Antoine crossing in southwest Arkansas. A Department of Arkansas Heritage study tracing Indian-removal routes records a party traveling southwest from Little Rock through Benton, Hot Springs and the Ouachita and Caddo river country before reaching the Antoine Bridge on August 25, 1837.
