Ferris State student helps Kent Power cut vehicle fuel waste

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University student Claire Allen spotted a costly inefficiency at Kent Power this summer: company vehicles idling long enough to burn through thousands of dollars in fuel every month.

Allen, a Ludington native and an accounting major, expected to graduate in May 2028, started in credit card coding and invoice processing before moving into supply chain in March — a shift driven partly by the company’s own need for support, and partly by her own interest in compliance and contracts.
