Michael Cogdill, author and former WYFF-4 TV anchor, will promote his latest children’s book “Where Did Joe Go?” at M.Judson Booksellers in Greenville.
Inspired by a conversation at a book signing for his first children’s book, “Cracker the Crab and the Sideways Afternoon,” the book tells the story of Joe, a horse who is loved by a little girl. As she grows up, she doesn’t spend time with Joe, but he remembers her and loves her. One day, Joe dies peacefully, and the girl is left to process the loss. Eventually, with the help of her Nana, she learns that love truly conquers all, even in the hardest of times.
“It’s a unique kind of love that you have for an animal,” Cogdill said. “They can never tell us in words that they love us, but we know that they do. That (conversation) germinated a story.”
When reflecting on “Where Did Joe Go?” Cogdill feels that the story is less about death and more about the enduring nature of love. He says the book is also written to approach loss in a way that was comfortable to read to a child of any age…
