Central Texans might just find a hint of relief this week amid triple-digit temperatures as area forecasters detect a slight chance of rain.
The glimmer of hope comes as the National Weather Service’s Austin and San Antonio office upgraded its heat advisory to an extreme heat warning on Monday, August 24 for Llano, Burnet, Travis, Williamson and Bastrop counties through 7 p.m. Monday. Come Monday night, those counties will pivot back to a heat advisory, which remains in effect through 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26.
“There is little sign that the heat will recede substantially in the coming days,” experts wrote in a forecast analysis published just after midnight on Monday. “The Extreme Heat Warning has been extended through 7 PM today to cover the afternoon heat between Llano and Bastrop counties, including Austin, where the blended model likelihood of highs exceeding 105F remains high, above 70 percent. These areas will likely continue seeing the highest temperatures in South Central Texas, but potentially hazardous heat will also be widespread elsewhere as highs continue to reach the triple digits regionwide.”…
